La Costa Canyon Girl’s Tennis Team

Organizes Rally for the Cure® Event

Blair Middlebrook and Lauren Morrison, Varsity tennis players at La Costa Canyon High School love to play tennis and both have big hearts.  Both girls have seen family and friends affected by breast cancer and are teaming up for the third year to run Rally for the Cure® a fundraising event for The Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The event is a round robin doubles tennis tournament for high school students.  Saturday December 3rd at 10:00, 25 doubles teams will play tennis wearing pink t-shirts to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.  Last year the girls raised over $1600 and had 40 participants.  This year their goal is to increase participation to raise even more.  To raise awareness and promote the event, before each match, the girls talk about the upcoming event and invite and encourage other high school players to participate in the fun day.

Joe Tomasi, tennis coach at San Dieguito Academy has been a big supporter of the event.  Joe lost his sister to breast cancer seven years ago so this cause is dear to him.  The SDA girls team has had full participation the last two years.

Registration is $25 and includes lunch and a t-shirt.  Raffle tickets will also be sold the day of the event and prizes include tickets for 2 to the 2012 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells and gift certificates to local restaurants.  The girls are looking for sponsors to offset the cost of the balls, t-shirts, waters and lunch.
